Highly-regarded pitching coaches Derek Botelho and Guy Hansen account for two of the most noteworthy changes the Braves have made to their Minor League coaching staffs.

While announcing their Minor League staffs for the 2009 season on Monday, the Braves revealed the Botelho is moving up to serve as Triple-A Gwinnett's pitching coach, replacing Hansen, who will replace the late Bruce Dal Canton as Class A Myrtle Beach's pitching coach.

After Dal Canton lost his long battle against cancer in October, Braves director of player development Kurt Kemp and his staff decided their best alternative would be to replace him with Hansen, who resides in Richmond, Va., the former home of the club's Triple-A affiliate.

With the Triple-A club moving to suburban Atlanta's Gwinnett County this year, Kemp decided to tab Hansen as the replacement for Dal Canton, who had spent the past 26 seasons in the Braves organization.

Helping make this decision was the hiring of Marty Reed, who will replace Botelho as Double-A Mississippi's pitching coach. Reed, who spent the past nine seasons in the Dodgers organization, was provided a strong recommendation from Atlanta pitching coach Roger McDowell.

"I think Derek, Guy and Marty are all interchangeable," Kemp said. "We are very excited to have each of them in our system. Marty comes highly recommended and when I interviewed him, I was very impressed."

Other additions to this year's Minor League staff include Jamie Dismuke, who comes from the Reds organization to serve as Gwinnett's hitting coach, and Roosevelt Brown, a former Major Leaguer, who will make his debut as a hitting coach with the Mississippi club.

Brown, who spent parts of four seasons (1999-2002) with the Cubs, began his professional career with the Braves and told Kemp that it's always been his desire to return in some capacity.

"You could feel the passion that he has for the Braves organization when I interviewed him," Kemp said. "When you get good people like Roosevelt and Jamie [Dismuke] in your organization, you're going to get good results."

Dave Brundage will return for a third consecutive season as the organization's Triple-A manager. Along with Botelho and Dismuke, he'll be joined their by trainer Mike Graus, who will be entering his 16th season in the Braves organization.

Helping Brown and Reed get acclimated in their environment will be manager Phillip Wellman, who will be looking to guide Mississippi to a second straight Southern League championship. Ricky Alcantara will return to serve as the club's trainer.

Manager Rocket Wheeler and hitting coach Rick Albert will return to once again fill these roles for Myrtle Beach. Trainer Chas Miller, who spent last year with Class A Rome, will join Hansen as new additions to this club's staff.

Manager Randy Ingle, hitting coach Jim Czajkowski and pitching coach Bobby Moore will once again fill these roles with the Rome club. Allan Chase has been promoted to serve as the team's trainer.

Rookie Level Danville will once again be led by manager Paul Runge, who will once again have Derrick Lewis (pitching coach) and Carlos Mendez (hitting coach) on his coaching staff. With his name, Ty Cobbs will certainly draw some attention while serving as the team's trainer.

The Gulf Coast League Braves will once again be led by manager Luis Ortiz, hitting coach Sixto Lezcano and pitching coach Gabe Luckert. Eric Malek, who was Danville's trainer in 2008, will serve as the team's trainer.

Kemp also announced that Luckie Dacosta has been hired to serve as the Minor League strength and conditioning coach and that Matt Saitz has been promoted to the role of assistant strength and conditioning coordinator.
